Why public-sector unions aren’t good

There’s an interesting discussion going on over at anchorrising.com about exactly why some people don’t like the idea of public sector unions but don’t care much about private sector unions.

Basically it all comes down to the public unions are negotiating against taxpayers, there is no competition, the government can’t go out of business or relocate and they don’t sell a product that consumers have a choice on whether to use.  All areas that make them different from their private counterparts.

As quite often happens in a many-threaded discussion, it goes off on many tangents, but starts off really well.
