Central Falls Teachers, again

“This is immoral, illegal, unjust, irresponsible, disgraceful and disrespectful,” said George Nee, president of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, to shouts and cheers from a crowd of more than 500 at Jenks Park. “What is happening here tonight is the wrong thing … and we’re not going to put up with it.”

That’s what Nee had to say back in February of this year when the teachers weren’t able to come to a deal with the school administration and the school decided to lay off the entire faculty.  However, I have to wonder if Nee would say the same thing today with this recent news:

The reason for the poor instruction: several teachers took indefinite leaves of absence during the first term, placing their classrooms in the hands of day-to-day substitute teachers, long-term substitutes or colleagues who tried to cover some classes.

Back in February, we read the articles where the teachers were quoted in saying all they want to do is teach.  They’re doing it for the children, for their students.

I have to wonder if the same teachers would utter the same quote as they did back in February, but this time at their own:

“Shame on you,” a few of the teachers shouted at the trustees and Supt. Frances Gallo.
